It concisely summarizes the technological background that is necessary to understand the surveillance that is gradually built around us.It creates a sense of urgency by sketching the scope of the surveillance and what's at stake for us as society as well as individuals.And finally, the book outlines general directions on how we could adress these challenges, as individuals, as governments and as corporations.(Digital) privacy is a fundamental human right and we should pick up the fight to defend it, and drag the debate about it in the open!!
**Deutsch ist unten geschrieben**I wanted to give it a 4 out of five stars only because I felt there was a little too much redundancy in the back and forth of the topics.That said, in fairness I am in the industry and have been involved in "Big Data" and security/network security for years.Most of this was stuff I already knew, however I didn't buy it for me. I got it for my family to try and help them understand what I do for work and why its important. If you keep in mind I bought this for people that are largely computer novices and not part of the IT industry then the book takes on a different challenge.I think it does a good job reaching out to people that are already interested in the topic. I think it might have missed the mark a little bit in reaching people that are simply "consumers" of IT, it should probably be brought down one more level for the large part of the "basic smart phone user or just by a laptop cause my old one isnt working right" kind of people. Not being an author myself I dont know if that would make the entire topic to difficult to keep the book as short and practical as it is currently.This book is perfect for IT students. Jemand Start Universität verfolgt eine IT-Abschluss in Networks, würde die Sicherheit oder die Programmierung erforderlich ist, um alle in diesem Buch zu verstehen Hintergrund haben.
Sehr amerikalästig (aber das kündigt der Autor auch gleich am Anfang an) gibt das Buch einen gut fassbaren Einblick in die Dinge, die mit unseren Daten geschehen und in die Gründe, warum Datenschnüffelei eben auch dann nicht egal ist, wenn man "nichts zu verbergen hat". Eigentlich ein "muss" für jeden, der sich im Internet bewegt.Fast die Hälfte des Buchs sind Referenzen. Es ist also nicht so dick, wie es aussieht :)
... und erstaunlich untechnisch für ein Schneir Buch. Dem Thema Datenschutz somit vollkommen angemessen. Die meisten Fakten waren mir schon bekannt dem Autor gelingt es aber viele und neue Zusammenhänge herzustellen bzw. Sichtweisen zu entwickeln.

Bruce Schneider als der "Security-Papst" weltweit streut noch Salz in die die Wunde. Wer nach der Lektüre dieses Buches immer noch meint, er hätte nichts zu verbergen, dem ist leider nicht zu helfen. Willkommen in der "schönen Neuen Welt".
Echt geniales Buch. Bruce schneier zeigt mal wieder was er alles kann und weiß. Ein Muss für jeden der sich um seine Privatsphäre kümmert und/oder wissen will, wie alles funktioniert.
